Wound Care Programme

OVERVIEW

The National Wound Care Programme was developed in July 2009 to identify issues and problems regarding wound care in Malaysia as well as formulating measures to improve the standard & quality of wound care in our country. The Wound Care Programme is a multidisciplinary approach to provide systematic, standard, and quality wound care in healthcare facilities. This initiative focused on patient-centered care through holistic approach by optimizing financial and human resources in the wound care service to improve functional outcome, reduce morbidities and mortalities which lead to better patient satisfaction. This programme has been implemented in all levels of care including primary and hospital care.

TERM OF REFERENCE (TOR)

The implementation of the modern  wound  care dressing and team at Primary  Healthcare (PHC) Clinic, Ministry of Health  Malaysia was initiated in 2017 under the  directive of Director General of Health. The  wound care team at the primary health  level was established to provide systematic, quality and holistic wound care services to accelerate the fast and proper healing of the lesions in order to reduce morbidity and mortality. The wound care services using modern wound dressing method was initiated starting with the development of guideline in 2018. Implementation started in phases in 2019 in PHC Clinics with Family Medicine Specialist and the training was given by the State Wound Care Team. To date, 803 PHC clnics provide wound care services using modern wound dressing.
