Patient Safety

OVERVIEW


Patient Safety Malaysia has been introduced in 2003 as an effort to reduce harm among healthcare practitioners and since then, a lot of programmes has been created to promote patient safety. The programmes include:



Incident Reporting

Incident Reporting was the first programme introduced in 1999 with the purpose to determine the reason for the incident and to ensure proper measures are taken to prevent its recurrence.

Malaysian Patient Safety Goals

Malaysian Patient Safety Goals was introduced in 2013 to outline priority areas on patient safety and monitor the progress of Patient Safety in Malaysia.

Patient Safety Awareness Course for House Officers

Patient Safety Awareness Course for House Officers was started in 2017 as preparedness course for the interns. It has seven modules that give awareness and knowledge on the importance of patient safety which was adapted from the WHO Multiprofessional Curriculum Guide.

World Patient Safety Day

World Patient Safety Day is celebrated on 17 September annually with predetermined theme. This day is also celebrated nationally with many activities in relation to the theme. The illumination of hospitals, iconic buidlings and monuments in Malaysia in orange lights further liven up the day.

Safe Surgery Save Lives Programme (SSSL)

Safe Surgery Save Lives Programme (SSSL) which was started in 2009 with the aim to improve surgical safety such as prevention of wrong surgery and unintended retained surgical item.
