National Operating Room Nursing Audit (NORNA)
OVERVIEW
National Operating Room Nursing Audit (NORNA) was introduced in nursing sector in 2012. Led by the same unit, Nursing Quality Development Unit, NORNA aimed to maintain the standards of nurses in the operating theatre of major MOH hospitals.
Four elements on nursing procedures in the operating theatre are being audited to ensure safe surgical procedures and patient safety best practices are being implemented to reduce the incidence of adverse events in the operating theatre. This initiative is inline with Malaysia Patient Safety Goals (MPSG) that has been implemented since 2013.The MPSG Version 2.0 which commenced in January 2022 emphasizes on two main KPI’S comprising of KPI 3: Number of “Wrong Surgery Performed” and KPI 4: Number of “Unintended retained surgical item” in Safe Surgery Safe Lives Programme, thus adding value to NORNA in ensuring safe practices in operating theatre.
