National Indicator Approach (NIA)
OVERVIEW
A set of programme-based indicators aims to measure the quality of care and services delivered in the Ministry of Health. The objective of the NIA is to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of healthcare through a regular assessment and feedback loop mechanism.
These national-level indicators address various areas of concern reflecting the core services of the programs. Indicators are monitored at regular intervals to track performance against the standard set. In the event of a shortfall in quality, the investigation should be conducted at the local/facility level to identify the root cause. Remedial measures should be implemented to address the shortfalls. The flow process for developing and monitoring NIA and NIA Selection Criteria is Available HERE. Click HERE for the NIA Selection Criteria Tool.
The Medical Programme started the NIA monitoring in 1985 followed by other programmes. Click HERE to know about the NIA Roadmap. At the national level, NIA achievement and issues will be presented and discussed at the QA Technical Committee meeting scheduled twice a year led by the Director of the IHSR and National QA Programme Committee once a year chaired by the Deputy-Director of General (Research & Technical Support). The current NIA list and its technical specifications can be downloaded HERE. The meetings also serve as a platform for proposing a new indicator to be adopted as NIA.
