Innovation

OVERVIEW

Innovation is an approach-based quality improvement initiative (QII) introduced as early as in the 1990s which aims to improve quality and value of current healthcare output or outcome through creative ideas. Through this transformation of norms either in the form of products, services, processes, or technology, it is expected that there will be continuous improvement in the efficiency, effectiveness and outcomes of our nation’s healthcare service delivery. In 2005, MOH embarked on its own National Innovation Awards (AIKKM), under the able co-stewardship between the Chief Secretary (KSU) and the Director General of Health (DG). The Oral Health Programme serves as the main secretariat. AIKKM has been an annual event since 2011, mainly to encourage and internalise innovation culture within MOH. To date, more than 1000 innovative projects have competed and were showcased in AIKKM.
