Antimicrobial Resistance Containment Programme
OVERVIEW
Antimicrobial Resistance Containment Programme In 2015, the 68th World Health Assembly urges all member states to adopt the Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and develop the country’s national action plan on AMR aligned with the global action plan and with standards and guidelines established by relevant intersectoral agencies. In response to this, the Ministry of Health Malaysia established the National Antimicrobial Resistance Committee (NARC) as the primary coordinating mechanism for addressing National AMR efforts in Malaysia.
GOVERNANCE
TERM OF REFERENCE (TOR)
National Antimicrobial Resistance Committee (NARC)
Purpose:
The purpose of the NARC is to oversee and, when necessary, to coordinate AMR-related activities in all sectors to ensure a systematic and comprehensive approach in accordance with national action plan for AMR. The NARC reviews issues related to AMR and advises the respective ministries or agencies.
Scope:
The NARC addresses all AMR-related activities in Malaysia. The scope is addressed based on four strategic objectives of the national action plan, prioritizing activities in a step-wise approach.
TWG of National Antimicrobial Resistance Committee (NARC)
Purpose
TWG is responsible in providing technical input, drafting National Action Plan (NAP) and strategizing actions under the NAP.
Scope
The scope is based on four strategic objectives of the national action plan which consists of:
I. Improves awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance through effective communication, education and training
II. Strengthen the knowledge and evidence-base through surveillance and research
III. Reduce the incidence of infection through effective sanitation, hygiene and infectious prevention measure
IV. Optimize the use of antimicrobial medicine in human and animal health
