SEMINAR ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE (AMR) AWARENESS AMONG NON-LIVESTOCK AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT SECTORS POLICYMAKERS
Date: 14th May 2024
Venue: Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya
The seminar was organized through collaboration between the Infection Control Unit, Medical Care Quality Section, Medical Development Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Malaysia One Health University Network (MyOHUN), Department of Veterinary Services, and the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM). Its objective was to enhance awareness and understanding of the AMR issue, particularly among policymakers in the non-livestock agriculture and environmental sectors, aiming to bolster strategies in addressing AMR through the One Health approach. Expert speakers from relevant sectors, including the MOH, Universiti Putra Malaysia, NAHRIM, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), WHO, and the Department of Environment, delivered presentations.
Throughout the program, participants actively engaged in question and answer sessions, as well as pre and post-tests to gauge their knowledge levels before and after the seminar. This event served as an extension of the AMR Round Table Discussion among Members of Parliament, encompassing the Human Health, Animal Health, Plant Health, and Environment sectors, which took place on April 29, 2024, at the British High Commission. The purpose was to prepare for the High-Level Meeting on AMR scheduled for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2024.
The seminar attracted 59 attendees, including policymakers and technical officers from various governmental bodies such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, and representatives from the World Health Organization Country Office Malaysia.
